Optimization of Random Sample Size in Progressively Type II Censoring based on Cost Criterion

So far censored samples have been studied by many researchers. One of the most important methods of censoring is progressively type II censoring. An interesting issue in the discussion of censoring is determination of the optimal sample size. Various factors are influential in determining the appropriate sample size, the most important of which is the sampling cost criterion. In this paper, ass...

New estimators of the extreme value index under random right censoring, for heavy-tailed distributions

This paper presents new approaches for the estimation of the extreme value index in the framework of randomly censored (from the right) samples, based on the ideas of Kaplan-Meier integration and the synthetic data approach of S.Leurgans (1987). These ideas are developed here in the heavy tail case and for the adaptation of the Hill estimator, for which the consistency is proved under first ord...

Estimating the conditional extreme-value index under random right-censoring

In extreme value theory, the extreme-value index is a parameter that controls the behavior of a cumulative distribution function in its right tail. Estimating this parameter is thus the first step when tackling a number of problems related to extreme events. In this paper, we introduce an estimator of the extreme-value index in the presence of a random covariate when the response variable is ri...

Risk-efficient estimation of the mean exponential survival time under random censoring.

The paper proposes a sequential estimator theta of the parameter theta of an exponential distribution when the data are censored. It is shown that theta is asymptotically risk efficient when the loss is measured by the squared error of estimation of theta plus a linear function of the number of observations and that theta is asymptotically normal as the cost per observation goes to zero.

Testing and interval estimation for two-sample survival comparisons with small sample sizes and unequal censoring.

While the commonly used log-rank test for survival times between 2 groups enjoys many desirable properties, sometimes the log-rank test and its related linear rank tests perform poorly when sample sizes are small. Similar concerns apply to interval estimates for treatment differences in this setting, though their properties are less well known. Standard permutation tests are one option, but the...
